In secondary school, students in the Secondary 4 Express take either Combined Science (with Electives) or Pure Science (Pure Chem and Pure Phys/Bio).
Combined Science is counted as one subject that consists of Chemistry and Physics (or Biology). Combined Science students are required to take an Elective subject (Dnt/ Art/ Food and Nutrition).
Whereas, students are also allowed to take Double Pure or Triple Pure. Double pure students would typically take Pure Chemistry and Pure Physics OR Pure Biology. Triple pure students take all three sciences as individual subjects.
As you can infer, the subject Chemistry is unavoidable and has to be taken regardless which combination.
